I wear knee socks with shorts to work as well (but not black socks – yet). Few people do but I don’t care as I think shorts look much smarter with long socks. I noticed I got fewer comments when I wore knee socks with shorts to work than when I didn’t.
Some guys wore knee socks with Bermuda shorts (including navy blue socks with navy blue shorts and a white shirt) in the late 80s when I was at university. I did the same. The fashion trend didn’t last long though.
I think you have to wear black shoes whatever with black knee socks and shirt. Colour coordination is very important if you wear knee socks with shorts.

I really enjoy wearing either buttoned or polo shirts with nice shots and knee socks to work. I like to wear either cuffed opaque knee socks with cuffs in either blue , white or black when I know that I may have a meeting to go to. When I want to be more relaxed I like to wear cuffed cable knee socks. The females always tell me when the cables are out of line and like to adjust my socks. I have had no negative comments only positive from all of my co-workers and mamagement alike. Some of the girls like to tickle me behind my knees. I love it
