Do British boys still wear short trousers and knee socks to school?

yup…but only in the private schools…for uniform…i know a kid who still does, but he told me its only the younger students. I also read many books printed recently that say the same thing. Its not common to wear them outside, and now a days, boys just wear normal stuff, like jeans…

Increasingly uncommon in Britain, esp for 11+ though a few private schools may still wear them up to 13. Shorts are generally prohibited in secondary schools now no matter how hot it is.
From one extreme to another. Until the 70s/early 80s there were some private schools where shorts were compulsory no matter how cold it was up to 18! Up to 13 was quite common.
Grey shorts with knee-high socks were optional when I went to a private school 11+ and many of us ended up in them in the hot weather. Even when I was at university (late 80s) some of us wore Bermuda socks with long socks in the summer. A complete no no now.
Mind you quite a young few men now wear grey shorts with long socks to adult school discos as fancy dress. They would get sent home/teased mercilessly if they did that at a real secondary school.
Fashion is a very strange thing.
